Mercedes Schlapp, the White House communication strategist, has a challenging job. Mercedes Schlapp is faced with a difficult task as White House's Strategic Communications Advisor. To date, her focus has been issues such as safety in schools, the opioid epidemic, trade, infrastructure along with other issues. At the moment the director does not interact extensively with journalists. However, in March her name was floated to be the candidate to take over Hope Hicks at the Communications Director post. The battle has been bitter. Schlapp's allies fought with Tony Sayegh in the press. Schlapp stated to that the Washington Examiner that she spoke with Sayegh regarding the recent article that was negative about him.
