Nancy O'Dell started her career in broadcasting by working as an anchor at WPDE-TV, Myrtle Beach South Carolina. Then, she joined WCBD as an anchor in the morning and a crime reporter. Her reporting of the ineffective response of the police in response to DUI instances in Charleston resulted in an investigation conducted by the State Law Enforcement Division, that led to a revised direction from the state authorities on DUI cases. In the year 2000, Associated Press awarded Ms. O'Dell with her Best Report of the year award for the entire South Carolina media. Following her stint living in Charleston, O'Dell worked as anchor for the NBC's Miami Station WTVJ-TV and also as an investigative reporter. Then she was hired by Access Hollywood to work as an anchor on weekends and weekdays. Additionally, she is an anchor on Dateline NBC and NBC News Today. She has covered major events like The Oscars, The Emmys, The Grammys, and The Golden Globe Awards. Alongside co-hosting the Pre-ShowArrivals to The Emmys & The Golden Globes.
